dc.description.abstractThe study sought to investigate the relationship between decision making and commitment of academic staff at Faculty of Education in Kyambogo University. It was guided by three objectives namely; to investigate how managerial decision making influences academic staff, participatory decision making influences commitment of academic staff and delegation of decision making related with commitment of academic staff at Faculty of Education in Kyambogo University. The study was qualitative and quantitative but biased on the quantitative approach. It was cross sectional survey design, involving a number of 105 respondents who were selected using purposively and stratified sampling methods. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire for academic staff and interview guides for top and faculty administrative staff. The objectives of the study were related using Pearson’s correlation co-efficient method. Qualitative data was coded basing on the main themes and sub themes developed basing on the conceptual framework. It was transcribed and analysed using the thematic critical judgment approach method. The findings revealed a positive significant relationship between managerial, participative and delegation of decision making on the commitment of academic staff at Faculty of Education in Kyambogo University. It was concluded that there was a positive significant relationship between managerial, participative and delegation of decision making on commitment of academic staff at Faculty of Education in Kyambogo University. It was therefore recommended that if commitment of academic staff is to be improved at Faculty of Education in Kyambogo University, the University Council, Deans, Heads of Departments should do the following; take independent decisions at times, carry out consensus decision making through consulting all stakeholders in the decision making process and finally should delegate decision making to some of the lecturers in the University so that they own and participate in various activities going on the university.en_US
