dc.description.abstract | The study was conducted to establish the relationship between staff development and job satisfaction of academic staff in Mubende National Teachers’ College. The objectives were : to establish the relationship between training and job satisfaction of academic staff, to find out the effect of induction on job satisfaction of academic staff of Mubende National Teachers and to investigate the influence of promotion on job satisfaction among academic staff in the College. The respondents in this study were 80 lecturers from National Teacher’s College Mubende. The study used a quantitative approach which was based on a cross section survey to enable the researcher obtain a sizable amount of interaction. Data was collected using a self administered questionnaire from 80 lecturers. The lecturers were selected using stratified random sampling. Hypotheses were stated using Pearson’s Linear Correlation. Quantitative data was presented using tables and graphs. Qualitative data was presented using verbal expression.
The findings indicated that there is a significant relationship between training and job satisfaction. It was also found out that induction is positively related to job satisfaction. The study also found out that promotion does not significantly affect job satisfaction of lecturers in Mubende National Teachers’ College. . The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between training, induction and job satisfaction and that promotion is not significantly related to job satisfaction.
The study thus made the following recommendations. The administration of National Teachers’ College Mubende should put in place proper staff training strategies to equip staff with skills that could enhance job satisfaction in the institution, institutions of higher education and Mubende National Teacher’s College in particular should make induction process regular and effective to enhance job satisfaction, the Ministry of Education and Sports. Management of National Teachers’ College Mubende should put up regular and appropriate promotion procedures to address the challenges in the college | en_US |
