    Abstract
The purpose of the study was to find out the factors affecting the performance of teachers in secondary schools in Nakapiripirit District in order to improve the schools’ academic standards, which have continued to deteriorate in as far as the national examination is concerned. The study particularly sought to establish and recommend the kind of relationship that should exist between remuneration, availability of teaching/ learning facilities, teacher quality and teacher performance. The study was conducted by census survey design using questionnaire and interview responses from 120 students, 30 teachers, three headteachers, the DEO and the District Secretary for Education. The data was then analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis techniques. The study established that in the District, teacher remuneration was poor, availability of teaching / learning facilities was not satisfactory and the quality of teachers was unsatisfactory. The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between remuneration, availability of teaching/ learning facilities, teacher quality and the performance of teachers in secondary schools in Nakapiripirit District. The study thus recommended that to improve the performance of teachers in secondary school in the District, the administration should improve, remuneration by mobilizing funds; increase the supply of teaching/learning facilities by properly distributing and utilizing teaching/learning facilities; and ensure teacher quality by posting more qualified, experienced and competent teachers, providing teacher training and organizing teacher workshops.
