Prevalence and factors associated with couple testing among voluntary HIV/AIDS counselling and testing seekers in Kampala District
Abstract
World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Programmes on AIDS (UNAIDS) have consistently promoted HIV counselling as a routine part of HIV testing especially in high prevalence countries. Voluntary HIV/ AIDS counselling and testing (VCT) is a cornerstone of HIV/AIDS prevention. Couple testing is an essential component of VCT in HIV risk reduction because couple focused counselling and testing programs has been shown to be effective in reducing risky sexual behaviour in heterosexual couples even if one or both partners have individually recieved counselling and testing services previously. Couple testing enables the couple to know their sero-status and formulate risk reduction plans based on their results.
