Aspiration or Mother and Child.

Abstract

Lombe came from the Makonde people, part of whom are in southern Tanzania. Sculpture form characterized by elongated features which give it a modernistic approach by infusing the spirit of modernization to basic sterilized approach. This gives his work a sense of personal identity. The sculpture shows the way a mother holds the two figures, each of them actuating the space as though they are offering a prayer to God. There are two children and the mother is presented as seated. The form of presentation gives the sculpture the sense of physical and emotional stability by the mother holding the two children strongly with her hands. The stand gave a sense of psychological unity and emotional protection made in concrete. By presenting the three figures, each of them looking into space, the physical work is united with the atmospheric sphere without boundaries.

Another interpretation: The art piece also refereed to as"Aspiration" in cement by Peterson Lombe is a large monumental designed as part of a new academic building at Makerere. Here form and content exemplify unity. The parent figure crouched close to the earth strains his gaze upwards.
