Motivation and teachers’ productivity in private and public schools in Kira municipality, Wakiso district

The study population comprised of all school staff from the selected schools in Kira Municipality. Simple random sampling technique was used to draw a sample size of 390 respondents. Data was collected using questionnaires, edited and entered into the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software to enable the carrying out of the analysis. This study used descriptive statistics using statistical indexes such as frequency and percentages. In using inferential statistics, the data was analyzed using correlation, which was vital in making sense of the data. The analyzed data was presented in the form of tables and figures according to the research questions. The first research question looked at the relationship between Extrinsic Motivation and Teachers’ Productivity in Public and Private Schools in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. Most respondents strongly agreed that; Availability of Fringe benefits would influence their Productivity; Most were willing to perform duties because they would be given bonuses; Most were willing to work extra hours for overtime pay; Monetary reward is the most important factor that motivates employees; The main purpose of monetary reward is to attract, retain and motivate qualified employees; Monetary reward is one of the most significant variables in explaining job performance; There is positive relationship between monetary reward and performance. The second research question looked at the relationship between Intrinsic Motivation and Teachers’ Productivity in Public and Private Schools in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. Most of the respondents strongly agreed that; they are more motivated to do their job when recognized and appreciated for their contribution to the organization; Effective training makes the company's employees to be more productive; Fairness of treatment at the workplace; The quality of the work environment impacts Employee Productivity.
