    Determinants of School Performance in Butambala District

    Abstract
    Education is considered imperative for not only progress of the individuals but also for the development of community and the nation. The research estimates the determinants of school performance in Butambala District. This research is based on panel data set on performance index and educational inputs of various categories of 68 government aided primary schools for the 2011-2017 period. The school performance was measured using the PLE performance index of the school as the dependent variable. The education inputs were independent variables and included number of teachers, number of latrine stances, number of classroom, number of trainings, experience of Head teacher, capitation grant and Qualifications of head teachers. It was found that the number of teachers in a school significantly (at P < 0.001) affecting the school performance. The number of classrooms in the school was also found to significantly (at P < 0.01) affecting the school performance in Butambala District. There are other variables which are significantly affecting the school performance of Butambala district such school meals, qualification of teachers and wages of teachers. The research will be used by the local government to improve on the performance of the schools in Butambala district.
