The sales management process at Proctor and Allan is done manually and with the increasing work it becomes considerably slow and gives results with many errors. These errors are noted at different stages of the sales process. The errors include misplaced orders, wrong verifications and wrong billing. The main objective is to develop an online sales management system to track and manage transactions from the point of order up to the time the products are dispatched. The aim was achieved using a number of methods that include; Data Collection, Systems Analysis and Design, Development and lastly testing. Data collection techniques include interviewing technique, observation, and sample documents from the company. During systems analysis and design, process modeling, data modeling and formation of a data dictionary were important tools that helped in the analysis stage of the system. The architectural design, database design, program specification, input design and output design helped to design the system. The system architecture used is 3-tier client server architecture. The implementation was done using html 4.01 transitional which helped to develop forms and user interfaces. CSS (cascading style sheets) were used to enhance ‘the look and the feel’ of the user interface. HTML aided in developing the lay out of the interfaces while PHP was used to implement the business logic (like validating orders) and connects to the database to retrieve or store data in the system. Thus PHP was used as the server-side scripting language. Java Script was used as the client side scripting language and was mainly used to perform input/form validation. Testing of the system was done using data from historical transactions in the sales department. Black box testing was used in this testing. The main objective here was to check for accessibility and reliability of the system. The application in summary serves people in Proctor and Allan (U) ltd with entering, updating editing and loading sales information into the database, availing them with a systematic way of carrying out a complete transaction. The application however does not handle monitoring of products from the point of dispatch to the point of delivery. We recommend that the software be used in the sales department of Proctor and Allan (U) ltd since it is customized to its information needs.en_US
