    Abstract
Information Technology Asset Management has become a crucial area of the general Information Technology management. This is mostly driven by the increasing expenditures organisations are making on both Hardware and Software components of the IT Systems. Software assets, just like hardware assets, are an integral and crucial component of the information technology systems. However, unlike hardware assets, software is an intangible asset, which makes it more challenging to manage effectively. The growing legal and financial software licensing requirements, are making it imperative for organisation to ensure that they put in place mechanisms to ensure that software assets are well managed. The objective of this project was therefore to study the subject of software asset management and then develop a system to enable organisations manage their software assets more effectively. The project scope was limited to managing licensed software within organisations.
