|dc.description.abstract||This report is about the Construction of the Apron at Arua Airfield-Phase 2 project, under which the author did participate as Project Manager on the Contractor’s team (Construction Manager). Detailed construction approach employed, and aspects of construction project management practice adopted during the execution phase are also included in the report. The areas discussed at length include the measures I took to ensure the project objectives in terms of cost, quality, time, safety and environment aspects were achieved during the execution of the project.
By the time of writing this report, works were still in progress, with project performance rated at physical progress of 75% of planned activities versus 85% of the approved time. The project coverage was 36,000m2 with major activities involving earthworks, pavement construction and marking, drainage works, installation firefighting gadgets, kerb installation and painting. All activities were planned to cost UGX 4,613,676,938/=, within an execution period that varied from 3 months to 11 months and defects liability period of six months. This report therefore covers the period from contract award to the pavement construction stage. Ancillary works were yet to be executed. The financial status had been upheld as executed work was valued at UGX3.55 billion (76% of contract value) despite variations in the project.
Overall the execution and management of project was a success. Gantt charts were used to manage and control time as concentration was always given to critical activities. Quality was achieved by following standards, specifications and work methods and close supervision. Costs were also managed through timely resourcing of the activities using the rates provided for the activities. The author ensured proper involvement of all stakeholders in project and smooth flow of information during the period of project execution.||en_US
