dc.description.abstractThe study examined the staff performance appraisals in organizations with Civil Aviation Authority as a case study. The main objectives of the study were to assess the contribution of staff performance appraisals, assess the staff and supervisors’ knowledge regarding the staff performance appraisal as well as the attitude and views of staff towards the staff performance appraisal at Civil Aviation Authority. The study employed secondary and primary data in order to achieve its objectives. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire comprised of open and close ended questions to allow for the appropriate use of both the qualitative and quantitative research methods respectively. The major findings were that, staff performance appraisals are vital for improved performance and assistance in identifying the gaps in staff performance which are bridged through training and skills enhancement. The findings on the attitude and views of staff towards staff performance appraisals were that many of the respondents expressed or agreed that performance appraisals were not objective but rather biased, but agreed that, they are a vital tool for productivity and service delivery in Civil Aviation Authority. The study recommends that, performance appraisal tools should be objective if they are to achieve results, they should not be based only on qualitative information but quantitative information should also be used to determine employee’s performance.en_US
