Analysis of the adoption of management information systems in intergovernmental organizations with field offices in Uganda: A case study of International Criminal Court

Abstract

Intergovernmental organizations are undergoing a gradual but irreversible change, due to innovations in information and communications technologies. Today information is the lifeblood of organizations, successful organizations should collect high quality data which will lead to high quality of information resulting in a good and effective managerial decision making. To improve the performance of management, many organizations have implemented management information systems (MIS). A descriptive case study at International Criminal Court was carried out in this research in order to provide accurate and valid information using qualitative approach so as to gain a deeper understanding, information and provide a justification as to why Intergovernmental organizations with field offices in Uganda adopt Management Information Systems in Intergovernmental organizations with field offices in Uganda. This study aims to analyze the adoption of Management Information Systems by Intergovernmental organizations with field offices in Uganda, and thus provide a better and clear understanding of the usability, emerging issues, benefits, challenges, success factors and design strategies for the adoption of Management Information System and therefore reviewing related literature. The major findings of this research include that the management information systems are accessible and easy to use and learn as well as fully integrated with other systems to address user needs. This made work at the organization easy and improved the level of information sharing at the organization and work processes, operations and decision making. The key factors affecting the adoption of Management Information System are perceived ease of use and usefulness of the system, information quality, system quality and user satisfaction. In conclusion, the study recommends that all intergovernmental organizations should adopt the Management Information Systems to derive a number of benefits over the challenges while considering the success factors and strategies derived in this study.
