An investigation on private sector risk management practices for adoption in local government of Uganda: A case of Wakiso District Local Government

Abstract

The study set out to investigate private sector risk management practices for adoption in local governments of Ugandan a case of Wakiso District Local Government, factors that influence effective risk management and strategies for effective implementation of risk management in local governments of Uganda. A mixed approach was used on a population of 121 respondents purposively selected depending on their roles in risk management. Using descriptive statistic in the analysis of data, evidence shows that the practice of enterprise wide risk management should be adopted however this should be championed by the highest level of management, and driven down into the organization coupled with effective communication. Risk management should be built into existing decision making structures and processes, and a strategic approach to risk management perceiving risk management right from goal setting should be adopted.
