Teachers’ perceptions on resource availability and internal efficiency of selected private secondary schools in Mpigi District, Uganda
Abstract
The study sought to investigate the relationship between resource availability (human, physical and financial resources) and internal efficiency in selected private secondary schools in Mpigi District. The study was guided by three objectives namely; to examine the relationship between availability of (i) human (ii) physical and (iii) financial resource and internal efficiency in the said schools. A co-relational research design guided the study using quantitative research approach. A sample of 122 respondents participated in the study. Questionnaires and interview guide were used to collect quantitative and qualitative data respectively. Pearson’s Linear Correlational Coefficient (r) was used to determine the magnitude and significance of the relationship between variables. The findings were (i) there is a positive relationship between availability of (i) human (ii) physical and (iii) financial resources and internal efficiency in the said schools. Conclusions that were made included; there is a positive correlation between availability of (i) human (ii) physical and (iii) financial resources and internal efficiency in the private secondary schools in Mpigi District. Recommendations were made that (i) school administrators and managers should strictly follow the right procedure while recruiting the personnel at schools in order to enhance internal efficiency in the private secondary schools in Mpigi District. (ii) School administrators and managers should provide all the necessary physical resources to teachers in order to enhance internal efficiency in the private secondary schools in Mpigi District. (iii) School administrators and managers should create steady sources of income to ensure smooth facilitation of school activities as a way of enhancing internal efficiency in the private secondary schools in Mpigi District.
