    Abstract
This project describes an Intelligent Network Security System, which is an important defensive measure for protecting computer systems and networks from abuse. This project considers Snort as the de facto standard for intrusion detection/prevention in an organization’s overall security measures and provides guidelines for IDS deployment, operation, and maintenance. The System was developed using tools like Snort, MySQL database, Basic Analysis Security Engine (BASE), APACHE, PHPLOT and GD library. Snort has the capability to log intrusion data collected from the network traffic to a database. MySQL is used as the database engine where all of this data is stored. Using Apache web server and BASE; this data is analyzed and viewed. Therefore a combination of Snort, Apache, MySQL, and BASE makes it possible to log the intrusion detection data into a database, analyze and view it through a web interface.
