This research is about moral decadence being a challenge to responsible living in Igayaza zone, Magoma parish-Hoima Catholic Diocese. It points to the necessity of morality for responsible living. This research is intended to find out the prevalence of immorality, the causes of moral decadence, the relationship between people’s educational standards and their levels of responsibility, as well as the relationship between morality and responsible living in Igayaza zone. This research is both qualitative and quantitative, a case study and deals with literates and illiterates who provided data through probability and purposive samplings. As tools of data collection, this research uses questionnaires, interviews, discussion groups and observation. In order to ensure quality data, the research uses valid and reliable tools of data collection and pre-testing of the questions before taking them into the field. The data is then organised question by question for easy analysis and interpretation. The findings of this research indicate that immorality is on the increase in Igayaza zone, and a lack of a strong moral base in families, permissiveness, the influence of the mass media, poor government policy on immorality and poverty among the people of Igayaza are the main causes of moral decadence. The research also indicates that there is a relationship between education and responsibility, the relationship between morality and responsible living. Given the prevalence of moral decadence in Igayaza zone, the family has a bigger role to play in overturning this to realize the desirable situation. The family is to do this with the help of the society, institutions of learning, and the fomenting of positive cultural norms. This research recommends that people in Igayaza should not only know but be encouraged to live up to moral virtues so as to be accountable for whatever they do.en_US
