dc.description.abstractThe study examined the influence of leadership tools on organizational performance in Uganda: A case study of Umeme Limited. The study aimed at establishing the relationship between leadership tools and organizational performance of Umeme Limited. Specifically, the study identified various leadership tools used by Umeme managers over different times, established the level of performance of Umeme Limited and the relationship between leadership tools and performance. The study followed a descriptive and analytical study research design. In this study both qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The study was carried out at UMEME Limited Head office and surrounding offices in Kampala district. The target population under this study included the staff of UMEME and its clients. A sample size of 101 respondents was used. Data collection tools included questionnaires and interview guide. Quantitative data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists to draw and present results. The study findings revealed that Umeme staff is qualified with enough experience for their jobs, but management deficiencies on their jobs result into their poor performances. Their poor performances are recorded in form of corruption, slow responses to assignments and poor time keeping. Major conclusions were that various leadership tools are being used by Umeme managers like in other parastatals which include coaching of staff, training and staff development, empowerment, participation, delegation and communication. However, the level at which the leadership tools are being implemented, needs to be readjusted so as to achieve better performance results. The study recommends that Umeme Limited improves on team work, capacity building, staff promotion, timely service delivery; improve on staff motivation and possibly the power sector being liberalized.en_US
