dc.description.abstractThe study sought to investigate how alcohol over consumption has posed a challenge to the functioning of Small Christian Communities. The purpose of the study was to examine challenges posed by alcoholism to the effective Small Christian Communities in Rubanda Parish, Kabale Diocese. It was a survey study that used both qualitative and quantitative methods. The specific objectives included, finding out the extent of alcohol consumption, showing how Controlled alcohol consumption is indispensable for the effective Small Christian Communities in Rubanda Parish, showing that Small Christian Communities in Rubanda Parish are not effective and finding out why Small Christian Communities are not effective. The instruments used in data collection included a questionnaire, an interview guide, focus group discussion, tape recorder and observation checklist. Information was sought from all categories of people-Roman Catholics, literate (educated) and the illiterate (uneducated) alike. Among the major finding was that Small Christian Communities were not effective especially where people over consumed alcohol. Small Christian Communities have been affected by over consumption of alcohol. The ideas of people were noted. It was discovered that where there was controlled alcohol consumption, harmony, peace and understanding prevailed in Such Small Christian Communities. They were more active than where there was un controlled drinking. However respondents came up with ideas, which they thought would help in improving Small Christian Communities. Suggestions included among others, controlling alcohol consumption, attending weekly meetings of Small Christian Communities, catechetical and Bible lessons for all Roman Catholic Christians.en_US
