dc.descriptionThe two-dimensional artwork is a symbol of an Ivory Tower representing Makerere University and its status as a leading institution for academic excellence and Innovations in Africa. The artwork is made up of units that represent diversity but at the same time are interconnected. Makerere University is conceptualized as an institution that opens up and is receptive to developing new knowledge, skills and networks. The relief sculpture is made of glowing blocks, with a perspective of being both innovative as well as futuristic in nature. In each of the units are different symbols that represent the multidisciplinary nature of the institution. The symbols include, but are not limited to; Technology, Telecommunications, Information technology, environment, Finance, Law, Art and Design, Conservation, Gender, Music and Performance. The artwork, therefore, represents the open mindedness that Makerere University has in researching about and responding to contemporary demands.en_US
