    Abstract
The study investigated the importance of Kikiga proverbs of work in reinforcing discipline. The discipline centered on was that of behavior. The study took this direction after a keen observation had been made about the attitude and discipline therein, of particularly Bakiga children towards work. There is a growing negative and indiscipline attitude among the Bakiga children of today, both in rural and urban areas. Above all other measures that can be used to reinforce this discipline is the need to use proverbs. However as observed and found out, the use of proverbs has tremendously declined. This is not without cause but the result of many factors: social, economic and cultural but many of which can be countered to abate the situation. Work and more so hard work is the most defining feature of the Kiga community. This means that allowing indiscipline such as laziness and individuality among others, to encroach on this feature is to pause a threat to the entire Kiga culture hence the basis of this study. Despite the decline in the use of proverbs, Kikiga proverbs are still viewed as a better option in promoting the discipline of work among the Bakiga children of today. This is because proverbs, more than other disciplinary measures, appeal to the total human consciousness and contain universal cultural truths that define and provide a unique perspective to life.
