dc.description.abstract The purpose was to evaluate the role of Board of directors in manufacturing firms in Uganda using Roofings Ltd as a case study. An extensive review of literature was undertaken on the role of Board of directors, challenges and strategies. The study was guided by three research objectives include: to examine the role of board of directors in manufacturing firms, to identify challenges affecting the implementation of the role of directors, to provide strategies to improve the implementation of the role of directors. The study used descriptive research design, applying a quantitative approach. It was non-experimental, cross sectional and unit of analysis were employees of Roofings Ltd. Primary data was collected using questionnaires from Directors and managers. Quantitative Data was analyzed using SPSS to generate descriptive statistics that include mode, mean and standard deviation which were used in interpreting the data. From the findings, it was revealed that Board of directors of Roofings Ltd play their role in the management of the company including strategic, monitoring and performance roles amidst challenges including inadequate funding and weak corporate governance framework. This study also established that regular meetings, close supervision, better remuneration, clear objectives and goal of the company enhance the Board role in the manufacturing company. It was concluded that Boards of Directors in manufacturing firms indeed play their roles which include strategic, monitoring and performance. From the findings, it’s therefore recommended that to avoid inadequate funding of the board and weak corporate governance framework, the company should always budget and make proper financial plans to cater for the board since its contribution on the firm’s performance is outstanding. en_US
