Abstract
The report gives details of the Construction and Project Management Practices that took place during the execution of the Residential apartments at Manyangwa-Gayaza, Kyadondo County Wakiso District. It is made up of four chapters. Chapter one, the Introduction of the project, gives the project background, objectives, scope and justification. It also gives details of the M/s MUCH Consult Ltd organisational structure and the Project Team Organogram. The construction project is a 2 block-3-storeyed semidetached buildings making a total of twelve self-contained units. Each unit comprised of two bedrooms (inclusive of a self-contained Master bedroom), a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet. The project was built purposely to generate income for the owner. Chapter Two presents the Project designs, Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and Procurement process. The designs included Architectural drawings, Structural drawings, and Mechanical and Electrical Installation drawings. The contract was a Unit Price Contract which was elementally prepared. The Contractor separated the costs of materials and labour in the BoQs which helped him to accurately price for each element. The total cost of the project was estimated to be Ugx, 1,587,373,646/= (One billion five hundred eighty seven million three hundred seventy three thousand six hundred forty six shillings). Chapter three discusses the Project delivery methodology. It gives the surveying mechanism and procedure; the construction and supervision processes such as the preliminary works, site layout, construction equipment/plant/ tools, site clearance and demolitions, excavations and earthworks, foundations, steelwork, etc.; and the Contract /Project management issues such as project quality, scope, cost and time management issues among others. It also gives highlight on issues of occupational health, safety and welfare for the workers, work programs, etc. Chapter four analyses the findings/ lessons learnt and then gives conclusions and recommendations for the future works of a similar nature
