Construction supervision of the office premises (ERA house) for the Electricity Regulatory Authoruty (ERA) at plot 5c1, third street, Industrial area.

Abstract

This report documents the work done by the author during the cconstruction supervision of the new office premises, New ERA House, for the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) at Plot 5C1, 3rd Street Industrial Area. The project consists of a 6-level storeyed office block with underground parking, gate houses and fencing, paved parking area, drainage works and with water and power reticulation works. The construction of the project started in June 2018 and is due for completion in December 2020. It’s currently at the finishes and final stage after which it will undergo a one (1) year defects liability period from its practical completion date. The report is divided into four (4) Chapters: Chapter One gives an introduction to the project, a brief background to ERA and the project objectives, the project scope and also describes the extent of involvement of the author in its supervision. Chapter Two describes the process undergone during the procurement processes for both the Project Consultant and the Contractor and the project design. Chapter Three elaborates all the activities carried during construction management and supervision, and lastly Chapter Four gives challenges faced during the construction, lessons learnt, draws down the conclusions made and provides relevant recommendations that can be adopted in similar projects. This project report is submitted to the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) of Makerere University in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the Master of Science in Construction Management of Makerere University.
