dc.description.abstractThis project report offers a brief review of the selection process of the contractor and consequently the work scope that was performed under a Euro 5,885,780.80 sub-contract with Sogea Satom to rehabilitate the Ggaba Water Treatment Plant. The work scope comprises construction of treated water tanks, backwash water reservoirs, chemical plants, office space and renovation works to existing buildings. Construction methodologies and project management basics that were used and / or witnessed by the author while he was part of the sub-contractor’s team are explained at length. Project Management principles discussed in depth includes cost, quality control, time and information flow management between the stakeholders. Circumstances under which an extension of time was awarded to the sub-contractor are expounded on. The report throws light on how the sub-contractor made applications of payment up to the stage of the supervising Engineer issuing a payment certificate to the main contractor. Inexperience in handling FIDIC contracts and unnecessary political pressure are some of the challenges experienced on the project. The report concludes with the steps that have to be performed for a project to be completed successfully. Recommendations are made that have to be addressed for project management to be improved in Uganda.en_US
