dc.description.abstractPrivate waste collecting companies affect the waste collection service majorly positively. With the much workload the Kampala Capital City Authority has, contracting out several services to Private contractors to assist in execution is the way to go due to their efficiency and effectiveness while operating. There is wide literature on contracting out waste collection worldwide but zeroing to Kampala it is scarce and limited to KCCA officials and the private firms. However, this study provides an assessment of contracting out waste collection concentrating on organic waste by KCCA. The study concentrates on assessing the collection of waste by the private companies and focuses on establishing the relevancy/impact of the private companies in waste collection and management in Kampala district. The study was at Kampala Capital City Authority Kampala district headquarters where a qualitative approach was incorporated. Therefore, the findings provide despite several challenges facing the service, the private companies are doing a great help to the Authority and the cleanliness of the city is improving day by day. Conclusively, the private contractors operations are required due to the ever-increasing population of the city yet its number one factor contributing to the large amounts of organic waste due to the need to feed and other factors. The study though recommended putting more emphasis on sensitizing and educating communities on proper waste management to cut costs and challenges faced in collecting and managing the waste.en_US
