dc.description.abstractThis Technical Report is prepared in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the Masters of Science in Construction Management of the College of Engineering Design, Art & Technology of Makerere University. It entails the construction methodology used and aspects of construction management exercised by the author having worked as the assistant bridge/structural engineer for MBW Consulting Ltd. The author participated in the Design Review and Construction Supervision of Civil Works for the Upgrading of Musita–Lumino/Busia–Majanji (ML/BM) Road Project from design review stage through construction supervision of the civil works. It illustrates knowledge and skills in contract management and reporting, construction supervision, quality and cost control as well as management of cross-cutting (health, safety, and environment) issues. This Government of Uganda funded project, was implemented by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) with Consulting Engineering Centre (CEC), of Jordan, in Joint Venture with MBW Consulting Ltd (MBW) as the design review/supervision consultant and China Railway 18th Bureau (Group) Co. Ltd. as the civil works contractor. The main objective of the consultancy services was to undertake a design review of the tender documents and supervision of the physical construction works. The author was deployed as the assistant bridge/structures engineer reporting to the senior bridge/structures engineer under the supervision of the deputy resident engineer and measurement/Highway Engineer. She played key roles in both the design review and construction supervision as detailed in the report. This project report entails the construction methodology used and aspects of construction project management practice exercised by the author while part of the Design Review and Construction Supervision of Civil Works for the Upgrading of Musita–Lumino/Busia–Majanji (ML/BM) Road Project which commenced in September 2014, at a cost of Uganda Shillings (UGX) Two Hundred Six Billion Seven Hundred Eighty-Four Million Four Hundred Twenty-Three Thousand FiftyThree (206,784,423,053). At the time of this report, the main corridor works had been completed and the Contractor had embarked on construction of town roads.en_US
