dc.description.abstractThis report mainly gives an account of the procedures taken during design and implementation including environmental and health requirements of the Construction of Inland Revenue Department Office in Hargeisa, Somaliland. This project report entails the construction methodology used and aspects of construction project management practice exercised by the author while part of the contactors team during and later worked as project management assistance during the construction of Inland Revenue Department Office in Hargeisa, Somaliland. It further details contract administration during the execution stage and the application of project management knowledge areas during project implementation. The knowledge areas discussed at length include cost, quality, and time and communication management. The construction methodology adopted by the contractor at every stage of the works has also been discussed at length in this report. The substructure of this project was designed to support 3 story building in the future. The superstructure of the masonry work includes site clearance, leveling, setting out, Earthwork, excavation of the foundation walls and column footings; construction of rubble stone foundation walls, column footings, neck columns, ground beams, and the ground floor slab. The project involved the construction of Inland Revenue Department Offices, although the substructure was designed to carry a 3 story building but at the time the project scope was to build only the ground floor. Construction projects involve a diversity of skills that comes from the diversity of professions, specialists, and suppliers that are involved in the process from inception to end. Successful implementation of a project can only be achieved with good project management practices in place. Failure to have proper project management monitoring and control systems can easily result in poor relationships, disputes, and cost overruns on a project. During the execution of this project as the contractor’s team and project manager associate, many valuable findings were helpful as regards project management. Some of which include but not limited to; organized and efficient record-keeping was learned, this is because for every action taken as a site engineer, it had to be supported in writing, payment for extra quantities. Materials with a long lead time and yet on the critical path should be purchased way much ahead and lastly Information flow on a project was determined how efficiently the contractor can meet his timelines. And variations had to be backed up with records such as measurement sheets, written instructions, and the like.en_US
