dc.description.abstract | This study sought to examine the relationship among Perceived Organizational Support, task performance and Organizational Citizenship Behavior among secondary school teachers in selected schools. This study utilized a cross-sectional research design and a quantitative method to collect data from 261 participants using convenience sampling technique. Perceived Organizational Support was assessed using a self- administered 8-item shortened scale adapted from the survey of the 36 item POS scale developed by Eisenberger et al., (1986) and the reliability of this scale was .89. Task performance was measured using a self- administered 7-item scale adapted from a 21-scale developed by Williams and Anderson (1991) and the reliability of this scale was .65. Organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) was measured using a shortened 20-item OCB scale adapted from the 24 –item OCB scale developed by Podsakoff et al. (1990) and the reliability of this scale was .75. All responses were based on a five-point Likert scale. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the respondents demographic characteristics, Pearson correlations were used to analyze relationships between the variables and mediation was analyzed using the 3-step regression analysis. The findings of this study revealed that there is a positive significant relationship between POS and task performance (r = .46, p ≤.001), a positive significant relationship between POS and OCB (r = .37, p ≤.001), a positive significant relationship between task performance and OCB (r = .57, p ≤.001). In addition to this, it was found that task performance partially mediates the relationship between POS and OCB. The findings of this study point to managers and head teachers to focus on policies and practices that employees perceive to be supportive and hence lead to improvements in employee task performance and organizational citizenship behavior. | en_US |
