Project report for the partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of a Master of Science degree in Construction managementen_US
Having completed the Project titled, “Expansion of HSC Two Storied Classroom Block at St Mary’s College Kisubi’ as a Project Engineer under Bucons (U) limited. Being part of the Project Team I was responsible for managing Resources in order to complete on Time, within Specifications and Budget as requested by the Client. The Designs and Specifications for the Project were designed by Wilson Development Services as an Architectural/Project Management Consultant and SSeka Associates as the Structural Consultant. Bucons (U) Ltd was selected as the Lowest Evaluated bidder through Open Domestic Bidding and the Funds for the Project were partly generated by the St. Marys’ College Kisubi Old Boys Association (SMACKOBA), parents and the school. This was a Unit Priced Traditional Contract. The Building was a Two Storied Structure with Classrooms, Private Reading Rooms, Laboratories, Library, Toilet, Hall and Stores. Accessibility to the Building included a Staircase in the Middle and Fire Escape Staircases each either side of the Building. A Contract was signed on 3rd July 2017 but works begun earlier on 10th June 2017 with a Letter of Intent then were completed on 28th July 2018 further the Project was commissioned on 19th August 2018.This Project was originally worth Ugx.2,882,562,056 (Two Billion Eight Hundred Eighty-Two Million Five Hundred Sixty-Two Thousand Fifty-Six Shillings Only) while Extra Works were worth Ugx.578,698,840 (Five Hundred Seventy-Eight Million Six Hundred Ninety-Eight Thousand Eight Hundred Forty Shillings) so the new contract sum was worth 3,461,260,896(Three Billion Four Hundred Sixty-One Million Two Hundred Sixty Thousand Eight Hundred Ninety-Six) Shillings Only. Further savings were sorted from various elements within the Bills of Quantities (B.O.Q) in order to work on Variations met during Construction. During the Construction, we faced Technical and Management challenges e.g. Inadequate Planning, Variations and Change of Professionals etc. therefore I recommend Consultants to ensure proper Planning during Feasibility Studies.en_US
