The purpose of this project report is to describe the project aspects, technical findings and aspects of construction project management practice exercised by the author or student while working alongside other participants during periodic maintenance of selected roads in Bulambuli town council and graveling of roads in Bunambutye resettlement area in Bulambuli district local government. The report focuses on how the project was executed, from inception up to the current stage including the roles played by different parties on the project, challenges faced and recommendations made. This information is important in that it can help project managers in determining whether the project management style applied on to this project can be very useful to other project managers in managing other projects of similar nature and also be able to learn from some of the challenges encountered while executing the works as well as recommendations made. One of the outstanding aspects on these projects in terms of management was that the project funders were Uganda Road Fund and Office of Prime Minister and maintenance intervention on roads was largely Force Account where an organisation uses its own workers and equipments to execute largely most of the works. This is rare in Uganda’s construction industry since most construction projects are contracted to private contractors and an independent project manager is hired to manage the project on behalf of the client or the funder. Private Service providers were only contracted to supply fuel and lubricants, construction materials, equipments and spare parts There were however some challenges encountered on these project like frequent breakdowns of the road equipments, late release of funds from ministry of finance, disruption of day schedule activities due to heavy rains and procurement of incompetent supplier firms. From the study, the author came up with the following suggestions and recommendations, Government institutions should plan early enough to hire sound machines and equipments from competent supply firms to minimise delay of work due to machines and equipment breakdowns because delay of completion of work denies the public the usage of the facility, project managers should make sure that suppliers stick to their work program, and internal audit department be strengthened to improve transparency and accountability. Successful implementation of a project can only be achieved with good project management practices in place.en_US
