Family Education: A strategy toward imparting Natural Family Planning in Kaproron Parish, Tororo Archdiocese, was the central topic of our project. Natural family planning refers to methods for achieving or postponing pregnancy that are based on the observation of certain naturally- occurring signs in the woman which indicate the fertile and infertile phases of the menstrual cycle during reproductive years. We were concerned because it is a common phenomenon nowadays that most people seek to limit the number of children because of poverty or the need to catch up with the ever increasing cost of services like education. Examining the methods of limiting children throws as to AFP and NFP. We highly suspected that the latter is being disregarded by the people of Kaproron, hence, prompting them to seek more of the former; yet ironically NFP should have been the choice of many Catholic Christians, because it is the method recommended and taught by the Church. Our main purpose, therefore, was to contribute in practice and theory into the ways of promoting NFP; this main purpose was split into finding out: the practice of AFP; the practice of NFP, challenges and how family education can be a remedy to the challenges in practicing NFP. Our project comprised five Chapters: One - five. In Chapter One, we stated the topic of study and after giving the background to the study, we stated the problem on investigation: NFP which is supported by the Church and is in line with the nature of man is not practiced in Kaproron Parish. We then gave the general purpose and the specific objectives to the study, as mentioned above. We also mentioned the Hypotheses: Family education will promote NFP in Kaproron parish; AFP is highly practiced in Kaproron parish, and NFP is not popular in Kaproron. In Chapter two, we exposed: biblical view on birth control; birth control in the history of the Church(using majorly Church and Papal documents, with Humanae Vitae playing a pivotal role); AFP and its methods; NFP and its methods; the prevalence of both AFP and NFP; and the Church’s Stand on FP- promotes it, however, only NFP. In Chapter three we adopted a methodology of achieving the above. In here we used purposive samplings- targeting resource persons. This sample was on a scope of the Study centering on the Catholic community of 10 Basic Christian communities- each having about 20 families from which at least five respondents were interviewed. It was a general survey kind of research using both quantitative and qualitative instruments- interviews and observation. The data was then described, computed and tabulated. In chapter four, we presented the data after analyzing it. We described and used tables to back our descriptions. In chapter five we gave a summary of our findings following our objectives in sequence; we presented them and discussed concurrently with conclusions made at the end of every discussion. This prompted us to test the hypotheses which were accepted basing on the conclusions that: AFP is highly practiced by the people of Kaproron; NFP is less practiced, and Family education will promote NFP in Kaproron. The general conclusion took the same tone of our findings and the results of Hypotheses testing.en_US
