In this technical report, the author presents an analysis of the project management challenges encountered in modern hospital construction during the construction phase, a case study of Nakasero Hospital Expansion Project on Plot 14B Akii-bua Road. The project aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery by increasing the hospital's capacity and improving its facilities. Throughout the project's execution, several management challenges were encountered which impacted timelines, budgets, and overall project efficiency. The author discusses the some of the challenges encountered during the project execution which included but were not limited to; Coordinating between multiple sub-contractors and suppliers; Coordinating construction activities with ongoing hospital functions; Managing noise, dust, and infection control to ensure patient safety and comfort; Managing budget constraints and time schedules; Addressing unforeseen site conditions and mitigating risks; Ensuring quality control and adherence to design specifications; Efficient communication and coordination between multiple sub-contractors and hospital staff. To address these challenges, the author discusses a series of corrective actions and mitigation strategies that were implemented during project execution or as to when the challenge was encountered to mitigate these challenges and these included; enhanced communication protocols that were established to improve stakeholder coordination and communication; execution of work using low-sound emitting machines and encouraging less noise during the execution of works; disinfection of all material, personnel and plant that were to access the hospital premises; allowing for flexible project schedules in case any delays these encountered for example unforeseen site conditions. The author also concludes with a set of recommendations aimed at preventing similar challenges in future projects. Key recommendations include the adoption of integrated project management software, increased stakeholder involvement from the project's inception, and the establishment of a contingency fund to manage unforeseen issues. By documenting the challenges faced during project execution and the measures taken to address them, this report provides valuable insights and practical recommendations for managing large-scale construction projects in the healthcare sector. The findings serve as a guide for future projects, promoting efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and timely completion.en_US
