dc.description.abstract | It is a requirement of students doing a Post Graduate Diploma in Construction and Project Management at the
College of Engineering Design Art and Technology in Makerere University to write-up a technical report about
training undertaken at a construction company. It is expected that this training would entail the student participating
in site activities on an on-going construction project or reasonable size and scope at the company. The intention is to
ensure that students relate their technical, project management, and contract administration knowledge acquired from
the classroom setting to actual practice in the construction industry.
This student was attached under the Construction Service Head Department as assistant Project Manager on the
switchyard riverbank erosion remedial works and upstream slope stabilization work. The report focuses on
construction project management and contract administration, but also details the activities carried out during the
implementation of the project.
The student was involved in the management and supervision of site works, providing leadership to the contractor’s
project team, preparation of contract documents attendance of weekly meetings and preparation of monthly progress
reports. The student also ensured cost monitoring, and quality control through supervision and ensuring use of
approved materials by the contractor.
These responsibilities paved the way for the student to gain more practical experience in managing projects through
the utilization of software, different project documents and the client’s contract team.
This project report therefore entails details about the execution of the switchyard river bank erosion remedial works
and upstream slope stabilization work | en_US |
