Masters (Plan B) project field report on the beautification of Rwebikoona open yard in Mbarara City
Abstract
This report details a host of construction and project management practices that the author participated in as the Contractor’s Project Manager during the construction and beautification of Rwebikoona open yard in Mbarara City. Chapter One; gives an introduction of the project and briefly discussing the background of the project, the scope, the funders, consultants and all other stakeholders. It also gives the author’s participation from pre-contract stage and through all other construction execution processes. Chapter Two; discusses the construction methodologies, activities and contract administration procedures undertaken during the execution stage of the project. Chapter Three; discusses the project management knowledge used during implementation and administration of this contract. The different project management knowledge areas are explored in the context of the project, with particular emphasis accorded to scope, cost, quality, time, procurement and communication management. Chapter Four; is a discussion of the challenges and lessons learnt by the author on this project. Chapter Five; gives a Conclusion and a few recommendations on what needs to be done differently on this project and the construction industry as a whole. Construction projects involve a diversity of skills that comes from a variety of professions, specialists and suppliers that are involved in the process from inception through implementation up to the end. Successful Execution of a construction project can only be achieved with good project management practices in place. Failure of to have proper project management monitoring and control systems can easily result in poor relationships, disputes, time and cost overruns on a project.
