Upgrading of Matyama local Service Centre North Ward, Namutumba Town Council, Namutumba District
Abstract
INTRODUCTION:
Upgrading in a place consists of retaining many or most of the existing structures (streets, houses, natural landscape etc.) but organizing resources or incentives for improvement of those structures; Upgrading of places also includes upgrading of infrastructure to improve health and quality of life in the neighborhood. The project is chosen to be carried out at the outskirts of Namutumba town in a place or neighborhood called Matyama. Matyama is chosen due to the organic developments characterised by waste water crisis, Poor and Dilapidated structures, Poor solid waste management, Poor accessibility, Lack of gazzeted open space, Inadequate water resources etc. this has been attributed to the location of the site where many people have been attracted to the Centre with the construction of Mbale - Tirinyi – Iganga high way and the establishment of Namutumba district headquarters just approximately 1km west of the Centre. However, the lack of a physical development plan to guide developments further has played big role in creating disorder worsened by the presence of Mbale – Iganga highway and a ring road to Namutumba town through the district headquarters which have attracted many people to the area hence the need for upgrading.
