The participation of the faithful in evangelization of Regina Mundi Parish-Moroto Diocese in light of Ecclesia in Africa
Abstract
The topic of this research is “the participation of the faithful in evangelization of Regina-Mundi Parish Moroto Diocese, in light of Ecclesia in Africa.” The major objective that guided this research was; the faithful understanding of evangelization and the extent they participate in evangelization, activities that the faithful are involved in the Parish, the challenges they face in evangelization and strategies that can help them overcome the challenges in evangelization. The researcher used both qualitative and quantitative technique during the data collection. The general objective of the study was to establish the participation of the faithful in evangelization and specific objectives were; to determine the extent the faithful participate in evangelization of Regina Mundi Cathedral Parish, to examine the various activities through which the faithful of Regina Mundi Parish Cathedral participate in evangelization, to establish the challenges facing the faithful in their attempt to participate in evangelization and finally to generate suitable strategies that may facilitate the progress of evangelization.
The research methodology included research design, sample size of the population, the population of Regina Mundi Parishioners was estimated to be 3000 and out of these only about 2000 are Catholics who actively participate in Church activities. Sampling techniques used, both random and purposive sampling techniques were used during the study. Data collection instruments, this was done through the use of questionnaires, group discussions, observation and interviews. Data analysis and procedures used during the research, here descriptive method was used, the respondents’ answers were all coded and grouped with the help of the bar graphs, line graphs to generate the frequencies and percentages. The major key findings were; insecurity, poverty, illiteracy, epidemic diseases such as Covid 19, poor climate that is so hot and hostile to pastoral workers, high influx of religious denominations sects were among the key findings during the study. The key conclusion was the Church as before should continue to work for integral development of the human person, sending its agents to be present in people’s lives.
The key recommendations were: basing on the fact that there are many ways the faithful can participate in evangelization, it is the duty of every Christian to participate in the daily running of the Church activities, all the religious men and women should be at the fore front of evangelization activities.
