The “old Manafwa Bridge” failed in 2015 due to excessive punching shear forces along vehicle tracks. On 6th April 2016, a design & build contract was signed between the Government of the Republic of Uganda represented by Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and Terrain Services Ltd, the Contractor, to have the bridge replaced. Construction works commenced on 21st April 2016, and were completed on 21st June 2017 . The project schedule was acceptable though works were allowed a 2 months’ extension beyond the intended completion date of 21st April 2017. The works were substantially completed by the intended completion date of 21st April 2017 and on 16th April 2019 a final inspection of Manafwa Bridge works was conducted by the client and the contractor representatives and commensurate with the same the contractor was relieved of his contractual obligations on the same inspection date of 16th April 2019. A 2 months’ extension of time was allowed to enable the contractor complete ancillary works. Other aspects of project were contained within a good grading range without deviation from the original project goals and objectives.en_US
