| dc.description.abstract | This project report details the level and extent of my involvement in the Construction of Rwentaka Sunbeach Box Culvert in Kabwohe Division Sheema Municipal Council along Kyagaju - Rwentaka Sunbeach road. Sheema Municipal council has a road network of 402.18km most of them being gravel and earth roads. These roads cross through the major swamps of the four Divisions of Kashozi, Kabwohe, Kagango and Sheema Central Division. Uganda Road Fund is the only source of funding for maintenance of the wide road network in Sheema Municipal Council. My major contribution was in data collection and analysis, sizing of the box culvert, cost estimation and preparation of the schedule of materials. I worked on this project as the Force Account Manager responsible for construction supervision.
The project was funded by Uganda Road Fund. The design was already undertaken and the documents were available having been carried out during the previous years. According to the design, the design out put a Q value of 8.72 m3/s and a single-cell box culvert (3X1.5m). The project cost was Ugx 210,791,340 (Uganda Shillings Two Hundred Ten Million Seven Hundred Ninety-One Thousand Three Hundred Forty Only) inclusive of applicable taxes.
The Project scope included construction of a temporary bridge access for community members, excavation of the site, fill with hardcore to create a firm ground, compaction, blinding, construction of the base slab, side walls, abutments and finally deck thereafter filling, painting of the guardrails.
The project implementation duration was 9 months, works commenced on 15 December 2021 and were completed on 15 August 2022. The works were done using force account and were undertaken by the Works department of the Municipal and I was the Force Account Manager.
The major challenges on this project included delayed release of funds to enable us continuously execute the works and inclement weather. This was overcome by discussing with the suppliers to supply on credit and working for extended hours during the dry season.
Design skills, contract and site management skills and techniques and management of cross cutting issues were acquired by the project team. | en_US |
