dc.description.abstractThis project report contains details about the construction of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) Office Building, located at Plot 10 Lumumba Road on Nakasero Hill, in the Central Division of Kampala, as of May 2020. This construction project was an eleven (11) floor building constructed to provide office space for IRA. The report focuses on construction project management and contract administration, but also details the activities carried out during the implementation of the project. Under Chapter One is discussed the background of the project, its objectives, scope and other project details like the contract sum, duration and the different stakeholders. This chapter also expressly states the author’s involvement on the project under the consultant Infrastructure Design Forum (IDF) as Project Resident Engineer. Chapter Two covers the project execution including the construction activities, project management and contract administration aspects of the project. The different tools and techniques used in the actual construction that took place on site are discussed in this chapter, right from substructure, through finishes. The project management techniques employed to manage time cost and quality are also discussed in detail. The challenges encountered during project execution are discussed in Chapter Three of this report. Some of the challenges were technical, while others were administrative in nature. The mitigation measure that was adopted to address each of the stated challenges are also discussed in this chapter. Chapter Four details the conclusions drawn by the author about execution of building projects based on the experiences drawn during his participation in this project. Additionally, the author makes recommendations on how building construction projects can be successfully implemented, going forward, basing on the lessons learnt from this IRA Office building projecten_US
