Abstract
Aligu is a hunting dance which is some times performed at funerals within the Jonam people.
Description
Aligu is a hunting dance. The motifs of this dance are similar to the movements of a specific animal, especially those killed in the process of hunting. This dance is also performed during funerals of those killed by animals in the process of hunting, and most of the songs performed are about the animals hunted.In Aligu dance, there are series of dances. It starts with Aligu, then Larakaraka. The themes of Larakaraka songs are mostly about social issues in the community such as modeling and education of women, domestic problems, barrenness etc.The Jonam live at the neighborhood with the Acholi, and that is why they also perform Larakaraka dance- which initially is the dance for the Acholi people.
