| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between resource availability and academic performance of secondary schools in Mityana District. The study was guided by three objectives: (a) To establish the relationship between availability of material resources and academic performance of secondary schools in Mityana District; (b) to find out the relationship between availability of human resources and academic performance of secondary schools in Mityana District; and (c) to establish the relationship between availability of financial resources and academic performance of secondary schools in Mityana District. The study took a correlational design, involving 27 head teachers, 35 teachers, 32 auxiliary staff and 35 students, making a total of 129 respondents, from whom data were collected using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed at the descriptive level using statistics such as means and standard deviations; and at the inferential level using T-tests and ANOVA for independent groups as well as Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, facilitated by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings were that (a) there is a significant positive correlation between availability of material resources and academic performance of secondary schools (b) there is a positive significant correlation between availability of human resources and academic performance of secondary schools, and (c) availability of financial resources significantly positively correlated with academic performance of secondary schools. It was therefore, concluded that (a) availability of material resources enhances the academic performance of secondary schools, (b) availability of human resources enhances the academic performance of secondary schools, and (c) availability of financial resources is important as regards the academic performance of secondary schools. The following recommendations were then made to school administrators and other stakeholders in order to enhance academic performance of secondary schools, (a) Material resources must always be adequately available within the schools; (b) School administrators must adequately recruit qualified persons as teachers and auxiliary staff to work in the schools; (c) Schools must solicit funds from a variety of relevant sources so as to derive enough financial resources. | en_US |
