dc.description.abstract Uganda’s road network comprising about 145,000km of National, Urban, District and Community access roads, provides the dominant mode of freight and passenger transport. Unsealed low volume roads constitute over 90% of the Country’s road network and largely impact negatively on the lives of the majority of the population who live and work in the rural areas. Therefore, a significant portion of the road network, especially of the low volume roads, need to be sealed in pursuit of Vision 2040 of the National Development Plan (NDP). The sealing of the low volume roads aims at reducing the life cycle costs of road surfacing. The cost of construction is minimized through the use of local available materials and the employment of the appropriate methods of construction. Also, long life surfacing lead to lower maintenance and in turn reduce life cycle costs. Minimizing the costs of construction and the overall costs of maintenance leads to affordability and sustainability of the low volume sealed road networks which are fit for purpose. The project report summaries the approach and methodology used to implement the sealing of low volume road of Lweza Kigo (6km) in five chapters, general introduction, the design criteria, project implementation and construction methodology, project management practices, conclusion and recommendations. en_US
