dc.description.abstract This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between motivation and teachers’ job performance in the private secondary schools in Hoima District. The study particularly sought to: 1. Determine the effects of extrinsic motivation on job performance of teachers in the private secondary schools in Hoima District. 2. Determine the effects of intrinsic motivation on performance of teachers in the private secondary schools in Hoima District. A descriptive survey design was used to establish the relationship between motivation and teachers’ performance. A sample of 100 teachers was selected to answer the self-administered questionnaire. Frequencies and descriptive statistics were used to show the distribution of respondents on the different variables. ANOVA and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient (t-tests) were used to measure the significance of the correlation between the variables. The study findings suggested a positive relationship between extrinsic motivation and job performance. The correlation is significant at the 0.01 level (2-tailed). The study further established a strong positive relationship between intrinsic motivation and job performance. The correlation was significant at the 0.01 level (2-tailed). The study thus concluded firstly that there is a relationship between extrinsic motivation and job performance and secondly that, there is a relationship between intrinsic motivation and job performance of teachers in the private secondary schools in Hoima District. The study recommended that the management of private schools should emphasize both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation for better job performance of teachers in particular and other employees in general. en_US
