dc.description.abstract This study was conducted in the parishes of Buyiija and Bongole which are close to Buyija forest reserve. The aim was to assess the contribution of traditional medicine in the primary health care of the rural population. The objectives were to document traditional medicine practices used, to determine the attitude of local people towards TM and to establish the relationship between socio-economic characteristics of TM users and the use, knowledge and attitude towards TM. A household survey was carried out using questionnaires and focus group discussions involving a total of 100 people. Data collected was exported to SPSS for analysis. The communities around Buyiija forest engage in herbalism and it’s the most popular TM practice, this is followed by spiritualism, bone setting, traditional birth delivery and mental healing being the least engaged in. In all the practices, there is great use of herbs to treat ailments and promote well being. en_US
