Abstract
The project was about the development of medium density residential estate in Akolodong ‘b’ cell in Malaba town council. Malaba Town Council is one of the urban councils located on the Eastern part of Tororo district. The Town Council comprises five administrative units namely: Malaba ward, Obore ward, Amagoro ward, Asinge ward and Akolodong ward. Akolodong ‘B’ cell is sparsely populated with semi-permanent houses and few permanent houses. Its growth is greatly influenced by the cross-border business of smuggling between Uganda and the Republic of Kenya. However, with the organic urbanization rate in this neighborhood, it has indicated the need for planning intervention due to the increasing insecurity in the area, poor connectivity and accessibility, underutilized prime land. Therefore, data was collected in Akolodong ‘B’ cell and analyzed to form the basis for realistic proposals. Design interventions were provided in the strategic plan with circulation and infrastructure plans to come up with plans which can be implemented. Conclusively, recommendations were proposed which included community sensitization which is a vital component responsible for the success of any planning project.
