Renovation of Hoima Municipal Office Block
Abstract
Hoima Municipality is located in Hoima district at an important junction between major towns which offers it great potential as a commercial hub. With the proper development of the area it may contribute to the local and national economy. Hoima municipality headquarters are located approximately 200 kilometers, by road, northwest of Kampala city.
Hoima Municipal council attained the municipal status in the year 2010, has an estimated population of 102,300 and a population growth rate of 3.2 per cent.
Hoima is characterized by steep flat-topped hills with an average height of 1300 meters above sea level with wide and shallow valleys. The major hills within the municipality are Ibamba and Kyahaiguru. With the undulating terrain of flat-topped hills the valleys comprise regimes of natural drainage channels that drain into the natural streams like Wambabya, Rwenkondwa and Bigaajuka.
The vegetation is mainly savannah or wooded savannah in nature which is composed of scattered trees and grasses. There is swamp vegetation along streams and wetlands. However this is threatened by continued encroachment for car washing bays, brick making, cultivation and settlement yet they are fragile ecosystems which need to be preserved considering the great functions they perform.
