MSC 8105: Knowledge Organization (Classification and Cataloguing)
This collection is created for MSC 8105 Knowledge Organization class/ module. Students will use this collection to answer their assignment 2. Course Description This module focuses on providing students with an understanding of the theories and practice of bibliographic description and subject analysis. In particular, it covers the organization of both print and electronic information, including the use of International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD); Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR); Resource Description and Access (RDA); Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH); Library of Congress Classification System (LCC); Dewey Decimal Classification System Abridged (DDC); and Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) formats to facilitate access and retrieval. Assignment 2 Description Assignment 1: Dublin Core/Metadata (10 points): Students will select two resources (e.g., images, postcards, etc.) and contribute records to a digital library – Makerere University Institutional Repository, makir.mak.ac.ug. Students will be responsible for providing content for the title, uncontrolled subject, creator/contributors, source, publisher, date, type, identifier fields, etc.
