Proposed construction of residential house in Garuga - Entebbe
Abstract
This report details all Construction activities and Project management practices that the author
participated in as the Project manager on the Contractor’s side during the construction of a
Residential House in Garuga, Entebbe. It entails an introduction of the project, briefly describing
the background of the project, objectives, contract details, project scope, organization structure,
procurement/project delivery methods, and pre-construction activities. The project comprised a
two storey residential house with other facilities including an outside kitchen, gate house, boundary
wall and stone pitching retaining wall. The report also states the author’s involvement from client’s
brief to project handover which included mobilization of resources, coordination of project team,
cost, time, and quality control. The construction methodologies, activities, and contract
administration procedures undertaken during the execution stage of the project are further
discussed in Chapter 2 including the tools and techniques used during the actual construction work
right from Setting out, through the finishes, and up to completion. The project management
practices explored during design, implementation, and administration of this contract are discussed
in Chapter 3. These include project cost management, scope, time, quality, and communication
management. The project was generally successful despite the few challenges encountered ranging
from lack of technical supervisors on the side of the client, unstable supply of power and water,
and limited working space. These were mitigated and some key lessons were learnt as discussed
in Chapter 4 of this report.
